Organic Cannabis Infused Lollipops and Marijuana Hard Candy Recipe

The Wake + Bake 4/20 Survival Pack giveaway

This is one of those recipes where I’m just going to come out and say it… “If I can do it. You can do it.”

I’m not a candy maker at heart. So the idea of having to figure out hard crack temperatures, just to land myself in the ER with 3rd degree burns, only to have to clean up after a hard candy mess… Well, it was intimidating.

It was so intimidating that even though I’ve gotten 1234987 requests from you guys to make these and share the experience, I put it off for almost a year.

I’ll admit it… I was actually scaredΒ at the thought of making cannabis lollipops.

Crazy, right?

Super crazy…

Because these homemade marijuana lollipops are so quick and easy to make, you will wonder why you’ve never done it before (and if you have made them before, you’ll wonder why you don’t make them more often).

When all was said and done, these organic cannabis infused lollipops yielded 20 pretty and delicious infused candies (some were prettier than others), with no burns and no crazy clean up.

I’m going to go ahead and say my first candy making experience was completely painless and made a delicious cannabis candy that helps me stay pain free. Yeeee!

Homemade Marijuana Lollipops

The key to making cannabis infused lollipops is temperature. While this is a very simple edibles recipe, requiring only 5 ingredients, it’s not something you can set and forget. You have to be present and keep a close eye on your thermometer throughout the process.

There’s a thing in candy making called “Hard Crack Stage” and it simply means that you have to heat your organic sugar, corn syrup and water up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit before removing it from the heat source. Getting it to this temperature, makes your candy hard. Makes sense, right?

The tricky part with making marijuana infused lollipops is that you have to let it cool down to about 250 degrees Fehrenheit so you don’t lose out on all of the incredible healing compounds in your cannabis tincture. This makes it a little messier to deal with since the liquid candy has already cooled and gets a bit sticky around this temperature.

You’ll probably have little hard candy trails all over your molds and counter when all is said and done. The upsideΒ is that you can just wait until it hardens and eat it. I didn’t have any issues with stubborn hard candy that I couldn’t pry off, but you’ll want to make sure that you work on non-stick surfaces. It all popped off and went right into my mouth. Which is a clean up process I can really get behind.

If you’re worried about making a mess, just lay down a sheet of parchment paper underneath your candy or lollipop molds.

You’ll have to make a cannabis tincture first or use decarboxylated hash (I haven’t tried this yet, but will update this post as soon as I do). Be careful when using alcohol-based tincture and make sure you are far away from your heat source when stirring it into your candy mixture. Because…Β Booze + Heat = Fire.

DIY Organic Cannabis Hard Candy

This exact recipe can be used to make cannabis hard candy.

It’s all in the mold. You can use your gummy bear molds from making Cannabis Gummies, or you can find molds specifically for hard candy making here. I prefer working with silicon since it’s reusable and it’s easy to remove your candy from silicon molds, but player’s choice!

Just follow the steps exactly and skip the sticks πŸ™‚cannabis tincture lollipop recipe

I love, love, love canna-candy! I use cinnamon flavoring that I get at Michaels and like you skipped the sticks after the first time. I also use concentrated cannabis oil that I get from my compassion center as it blends easier with the sugar and corn syrup. I received a Magic butter machine for Christmas and made a tincture from hash and ever clear but can’t seem to get passed the alcohol taste so am afraid it would ruin the candy if I used it. I’m wondering if I did something wrong because it’s like doing a shot of alcohol, straight up, no water! Not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be or not?

      Hi Nancy!

What kind of alcohol did you use? If it’s PGA/Everclear, it’s going to taste really boozy no matter what. I added honey to mine to help with the taste, but it’s still really intense. Have you tried brandy? IMHO, it’s much smoother and easier to take, especially if you’re using it regularly.

I can’t wait to try these with concentrates. Do you also wait for the temperature to come down to add it or do you put it right in?

      Thanks for reaching out!

My name is Angela, I’ve made the canna honey a few times but this is the first time I used the sunflower lecithin and I used the crockpot method, and my honey came out very dark like molasses or sorghum, can you explain why?

Hello, Corrine! Thanks for this awesome post. I can’t wait to try out your recipe. My question is in regard to dosing. If I’m using hash for this recipe, testing at about 60 percent THC, how would I go about calculating dosages for these pops? Also, the recipe calls for 2-3 tsp cannabis tincture. How much hash should I use? Thanks, again, in advance ! I love what you do.

      Hi Sam,

Great question. Thanks for reaching out!

So if your hash has tested at 60% THC, that means there will be 600 mg of THC in a gram of your hash. If you put an entire gram in this recipe, each lollipop (recipe makes about 20) will have approximately 30 mg THC. That’s a pretty strong lollipop πŸ™‚

If you’d like it to be a little more mellow, you can use 1/2 gram of your hash and each lollipop will have 15 mg THC.

      I hope that helps!

Here’s my recipe modified from Ruff House Studios. They suggest 3-5 gms of keif or hash which had 0 effect. The one thing I haven’t tried is decarbing the hash (I use Afghani Black). Patients love these and I can’t keep then in stock!

Hash Lollipops (this recipe makes 50 jolly ranchers or 40 lollipops)

    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 cup light corn syrup
    1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 (3-ounce) box cherry gelatin dessert mix (any flavor will do)
    hash (15-18 grams is best)
    Nonstick cooking spray

    Special Equipment:
Lollipop / rancher molds (from Michael’s Crafts)
    Metal tablespoon-size measuring spoon
    Candy thermometer

Arrange and spray molds with cooking spray prior to mixing ingredients.

Place hash in coffee grinder and grind to fine powder.

Mix gelatin pack and hash in a small bowl and set aside.

Stir sugar, corn syrup, and butter in small saucepan over low heat until sugar has dissolved.

Slowly bring to a boil, stirring frequently.

Continue cooking for a few minutes, or until candy thermometer registers 285 degrees F (hard crack).

Stir in gelatin and hash mixture until smooth.

Using a metal tablespoon and working quickly, spoon syrup over 1 end of each lollipop stick.

Let candy cool completely before pulling from mold.

Wrap each lollipop in plastic wrap and store cool and dry in an airtight container.

    Hi Corinne,

    Thanks for the post!
I have a question for you. How did you manage to transfer candy syrup to the mold with the least amount of waste?
When I waited the syrup to go 250, it was already getting hard. The syrup I was able to pour into the mold turned out good but there was so much left over in the pot I couldn’t save.

If I have had put cannabis in that, I would have lost so much.

Any tips on transferring syrup into a mold with minimum waste?

    Hey, Corinne!

First and foremost, you are a plethora of knowledge! I just recently purchased your Wake and Bake cookbook, and I am eagerly awaiting Dazed and Infused! Just a quick question: Where can I find the lolipop molds that you use for this recipe?

    Thanks, and warmest regards! ☺️

    Hi Corinne,
I’ve been researching methods to decarboxylate for my canna oil, which I will be putting in my canna pops. Also, which recipe method would be best. I’ve reduced it to this Alcohol/Everclear method or the soy or sunflower lethicin recipe. In the later, does the powdered lethicin resolve, or do I need a liquid lethicin? Also, I understand that the more potent would be with the lethicin? Are there any methods of extracting that would allow your infusion to be clear in color and without much debris?

tinctures are better on color and debris than oil, and if you can get your hands on some organic concentrate, that’s even better. I’ve honestly never made these with oil, so I’m not sure how that would go. Let me know if you try it πŸ™‚
